Northside - Pinetown is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Pender 13-2. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Meanwhile, Roxboro Community got themselves on the board against Wilson Prep on Tuesday, but Wilson Prep never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 21-0 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Bulldogs, who have now won ten games in a row.
Kaylyn Pope looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk).
At the plate, Leah Griffin and Presley Leonard did most of the damage at the plate: Griffin went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Leonard got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave Leonard a new career-high. Lexi Powell was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Roxboro Community was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .833. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in 17 consecutive matches.
Roxboro Community pushed their record up to 17-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Northside - Pinetown, their win bumped their record up to 13-10.
Everything went Northside - Pinetown's way against Roxboro Community in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Northside - Pinetown made off with a 15-5 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
