New Palestine has won six straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Yorktown has won six straight on the road also dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The Dragons will take on the Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
New Palestine's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over East Central. The win continues a trend for the Dragons in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won five in a row.
Kenna Tweedy made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Tweedy was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other pitching news, Sadey Hughbanks tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over 5.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Maddie Engle, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Dye, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Yorktown took on Muncie Central on Monday. The Tigers blew past the Bearcats 29-0. The contest marked the Tigers' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Olivia Jaromin was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Danae Caldwell was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Yorktown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Yorktown's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for New Palestine, their victory bumped their record up to 8-0.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. New Palestine hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Yorktown struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
New Palestine took their win against Yorktown in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-2 score. Will the Dragons repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
