Albany and Salesian College Preparatory are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Cougars will look to defend their home field on Saturday against the Pride at 12:30 p.m. Albany is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Albany fell victim to Marin Catholic and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Cougars' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Caroline Snyder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.
Meanwhile, Salesian College Preparatory's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Thursday. They never let Las Lomas get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pride, who have now won seven contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
DeAmor Coleman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Salesian College Preparatory got a big performance out of Cristina Martinez-Adalco, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Matea Gaddies, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Salesian College Preparatory was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Salesian College Preparatory is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Albany, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Albany has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Salesian College Preparatory struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Albany might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Salesian College Preparatory in their previous matchup last Wednesday.
