The Northampton Yellowjackets had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 89-73 win over Arcadia. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Ronyell Coston continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 47 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Quayshawn Washington, who dropped a triple-double on 18 points, ten assists, and ten steals.
Despite the defeat, Arcadia had strong showings from Ryheim Pettit, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 16 rebounds, and Jordan Cropper, who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds. Cropper hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. Carson Lucy was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Arcadia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northampton only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Northampton's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.4 points per game. As for Arcadia, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northampton will take on Chincoteague at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chincoteague will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 333rd, while Northampton is ranked 154th). As for Arcadia, they will be playing at home against Nandua at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
