Madison and Jefferson Area are an even 2-2-2 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Blue Streaks will welcome the Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Madison will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Madison gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 5-1 win over Wickliffe.

Kara Mekulsia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
Mekulsia wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tori Semple, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Another was Addy Behm, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Jefferson Area fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against West Geauga on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wolverines by a score of 5-4. The Falcons' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Alaina Barress made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Marillia Matuz, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Madison's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Jefferson Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Madison hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .388. However, it's not like Jefferson Area struggles in that department as they've averaged .389. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Madison was able to grind out a solid win over Jefferson Area when the teams last played back in March, winning 6-2. Will the Blue Streaks repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
