Brennan is 7-0 against Holmes since October of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Brennan Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Holmes Huskies at 2:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Brennan has five straight victories, Holmes has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Brennan put the finishing touches on their third blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 38-7 win over Sotomayor. Given Brennan's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 161st, while Sotomayor is ranked 469th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brennan found their leader in underclassman Micai Thompson, who rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Malik White and his 82 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Brennan's win.
Meanwhile, Holmes had to suffer through a rough 36-6 loss at the hands of Taft.
Brennan's victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Stevens and 1-7 O'Connor (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.7% over those games). As for Holmes, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
Everything came up roses for Brennan against Holmes in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 56-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brennan since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
