Maiden has gone 8-2 against Newton-Conover recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Blue Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Red Devils at 7:00 p.m.
Maiden fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against East Lincoln on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 8-7. On the bright side, the seven- run performance marked the Blue Devils' highest-scoring contest to date.
Graham Repaire made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Ty Hatfield also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Newton-Conover came tearing into Tuesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 12-3 win.
Aidan McElhone made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. McElhone was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases.
In other batting news, Kobe Windsor and Dylan McElhone did most of the damage at the plate: Windsor went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while Dylan got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. Another player making a difference was Eric Jones, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
Newton-Conover always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Foard only posted an OBP of .333.
Maiden has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for Newton-Conover, their record now sits at 7-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Maiden has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Newton-Conover struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Maiden's way against Newton-Conover in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, as Maiden made off with a 10-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
