It was a good run, but the Laney Buccaneers unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 61-51 to Holly Springs. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Laney came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Holly Springs is ranked 92nd).
Despite the loss, Laney still got an impressive performance from Hezron Driver, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Shark Baynard, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Laney's loss dropped their record down to 9-1. As for Holly Springs, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.
Laney won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Wakefield at 12:30 p.m. on December 30th. Wakefield is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. Holly Springs won't have much time to rest: their next match is against New Hanover at 5:00 p.m. on December 30th. New Hanover is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
