The Wasatch Wasps had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They took down Maple Mountain 69-51. That's another feather in the cap for Wasatch, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Wasatch was led to victory by Peyton Behnke and Ashley Garner. Behnke went 7 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 4 assists, while Garner dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Behnke has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Fili Liava'a, who scored eight points along with six assists and two steals.
Despite the loss, Maple Mountain still got an impressive performance from Jaynee Tanner, who almost dropped a triple-double on 16 points, ten rebounds, and nine assists. That's the first time this season that Tanner posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Rachel Messick, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Wasatch is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. As for Maple Mountain, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-5.
Wasatch will head out on the road to take on Springville at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Springville is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home. Maple Mountain will take on Salem Hills at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Salem Hills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
