The Caliche Buffaloes waltzed into their contest on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Wiggins by a score of 57-48. For Caliche, this counts as revenge for the 68-35 defeat the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Caliche to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ava Hernandez, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Karsyn Huss was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Despite the loss, Wiggins still got an impressive performance from Riley Hunt, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Hunt has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Kerr, who scored 11 points along with six assists and three steals.
Even though they lost, Wiggins smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Caliche is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Wiggins, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
Caliche and the Mustangs will face off at 4:00 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Prairie is ranked 122nd, while the Buffaloes are ranked 125th). As for Wiggins, they will head out on the road to challenge the Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Akron and the Tigers are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
