Basketball Recap: Summerville Takes a Loss

Summerville lost against Westwood back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Green Wave took a 63-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Redhawks. While losing is never fun, the Green Wave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while the Redhawks are ranked 11th).

Despite the defeat, Summerville saw an underclassman step up: freshman Reed Robinson shot 60% from the field to rack up 21 points and six boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Robinson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Josiah Taylor, who went 6-for-12 en route to 14 points and five assists.

Jayden Crews produced another solid performance dropping a double-double with 29 points and 12 rebounds for Westwood. Those 12 boards gave Crews a new career-high. Daytron Cockfield was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Summerville and nudges their season record down to 3-3. As for Westwood, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Summerville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-43 win against Lucy Beckham on the 18th. As for Westwood, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 56-34 victory against Fairfield Central on the 17th.
