Baseball Recap: Landstown Has No Trouble Against Salem

While Landstown put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Salem. The Eagles blew past the Sundevils 22-0. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Sundevils recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

George Chevalier made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI.

In other batting news, Jordan Hunt and Colin Kim did most of the damage at the plate: Hunt went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Kim went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs. Hunt also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Aidan Ross was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Landstown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive matchups.

Landstown pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Salem, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Landstown is set to challenge their familiar foe Princess Anne at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 3.6, the Cavaliers 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Salem will face off against rival Bayside at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
