Cedar Grove has gone 7-1 against Boonton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Panthers will welcome the Bombers at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Things were looking good for Cedar Grove after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 20-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of Newark Central. While the Panthers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Blue Devils 7-0 in the first quarter.
Cedar Grove's defeat came about despite a quality game from Xavier Andujar, who picked up 151 receiving yards.
Even if they lost, Cedar Grove's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Michael Leno was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 31 points the game before, Boonton was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They fell 13-7 to Wallkill Valley. The matchup marked the Bombers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Cedar Grove will have to keep a close watch on Josiah Chaplain and Isa Kupa, a pair of players who had a big impact on Boonton's prior game. Chaplain rushed for 102 yards and one TD on only 11 carries, while Kupa rushed for 92 yards.
Cedar Grove's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-3. As for Boonton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Cedar Grove has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 159.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Boonton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 275.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Cedar Grove against Boonton in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 56-23 victory. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bombers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
