Winston has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They and the Grundy County/Newtown-Harris Panthers will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
Last Tuesday, Winston suffered a tough 48-23 defeat at the hands of the Cardinals. While losing is never fun, Winston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 451st, while the Cardinals are ranked 126th).
Meanwhile, Grundy County/Newtown-Harris beat the Hawks 46-39 on Tuesday.
Grundy County/Newtown-Harris found their leader in underclassman Kinsley Allnutt, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Allnutt has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexa Stonger, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Winston has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Grundy County/Newtown-Harris, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7.
Winston came up short against the Panthers in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 40-30. Can Winston avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
