The Hillsboro Hawks will face off against the St. Clair Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Hillsboro 3.9, St. Clair 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Hillsboro headed into their last contest having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Seckman let them put that streak behind them. The Hawks walked away with a 10-6 victory over the Jaguars on Tuesday. Considering the Hawks' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
The team relied heavily on Max Partney, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gunner Sutton, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Hillsboro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, St. Clair has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.33 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They lost 11-1 to DeSoto. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Bulldogs have suffered since May 7, 2024.
St. Clair saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nate Short, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That RBI was Short's first of the season.
Hillsboro now has a winning record of 4-3. As for St. Clair, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hillsboro has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like St. Clair struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
