There's no place like home for the Salem Hills Skyhawks, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They walked away with a 47-34 victory over Cedar Valley on Friday. This was payback for Salem Hills, who suffered a 52-40 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Leading Salem Hills to victory were Chenielle Nye and Brooke Warren. Nye scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and three steals, while Warren dropped a double-double on ten points and 17 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Nye pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Addy Tasker, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Salem Hills' lineup was just a bit different on Friday as Tasker got a bit more time on the court (19 vs. her season average of 9.93). Tasker made the most of the opportunity, scoring ten points along with six rebounds. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Cedar Valley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Kaaihue, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Ellie Larson, who scored seven points along with four steals and three blocks.
Salem Hills has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Cedar Valley, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Salem Hills will square off against Wasatch at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Wasatch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday. As for Cedar Valley, they will head out on the road to challenge Spanish Fork at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Utah (Spanish Fork is ranked 58th, while Cedar Valley is ranked 49th).
