Hope Christian extended the longest winning streak in Alabama Christian (8 Man) this week by beating Tabernacle, 56-28. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Eagles.
Evangel Family Christian Academy led the league in scoring this week after putting up 87 points on North River Christian. David Munroe threw for 42 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 70 yards in the win.
Hope Christian's dynamic duo of Dillon Thompson and Charles Streets proved tough for the Torches to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Thompson threw for 209 yards and five touchdowns and Streets had 143 yards receiving. Cannon Fuqua helped Hope Christian's passing attack out by catching one ball for 63 yards.
David Baggett was the most productive running back in the league this week. In nine carries, he ran for 135 yards as Evangel Christian defeated Tabernacle. Teammate Mason Murphy added to the ground attack by rushing for 39 yards.
5-foot-9 quarterback Andrew Thompson of the Lightning is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1068. He has also thrown 18 touchdowns. On the ground, the Eagles' Thompson has rushed for 429 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Streets. The Hope Christian star has 20 catches for 456 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Hope Christian and Evangel Christian. The Eagles enters the game ranked first in the state, while Del Clayton's team ranks third.
There should be lots of points scored when Hope Christian and the Lightning face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Eagles comes in having scored 352 this season, while Evangel Christian has scored 349. Hope Christian scored 56 points last week as it bested Wayne Dabbs' team.
The Eagles made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 144 from 226. The improvement was the result of 56-28 victory over the Torches last week.
