Basketball Game Preview: Round Valley Elks vs. Pinon Eagles

Round Valley has gone 10-0 against Pinon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Round Valley Elks will face off against the Pinon Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Round Valley took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Horizon Honors by a score of 38-28.

Round Valley found their leader in sophomore Addison Poston, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. With that strong performance, Poston is now averaging an impressive 8.2 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelci Walker, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds.

Round Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pinon). They blew past Northland Prep Academy 63-29 on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Round Valley's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.3 points per game. As for Pinon, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 6-9.

Round Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over Pinon in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 46-35. Does Round Valley have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pinon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
