McPherson has gone a perfect 5-0 against Chanute recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Bullpups are taking a road trip to square off against the Comets at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
McPherson came out on top against Winfield on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run first inning. The Bullpups beat the Vikings by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 16-1. Considering the Bullpups have won three contests by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Cade Strathman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Strathman was even better at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cru Buchman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Graham Prescott, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
McPherson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2025.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chanute). They were the clear victors by a 16-9 margin over Pittsburg on Tuesday. The Comets not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 8, 2025 (when they won 8-0).
McPherson pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Chanute, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Everything went McPherson's way against Chanute in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as McPherson made off with a 15-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bullpups since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
