Basketball Recap: Trinity Catholic Takes a Loss

Trinity Catholic was the 62-27 winner over The Villages Charter when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Trinity Catholic Celtics were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 63-62 to The Villages Charter Buffalo. The Celtics have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Trinity Catholic lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ja'Niya Corbin, who went 8 of 15 on her way to 24 points and five rebounds. Corbin's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alessa Washington, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 15 points and seven assists.

Even though they lost, Trinity Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

The Villages Charter's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zion Mcrae, who posted 21 points along with six boards and five assists. That's the most boards Mcrae has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Herva Brutus, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards.

Trinity Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for The Villages Charter, they pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Trinity Catholic didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 53-52 victory against North Florida Educational Institute on the 4th. As for The Villages Charter, they will face off against P.K. Yonge at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Villages Charter is facing P.K. Yonge at the right time seeing as P.K. Yonge is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
