The Early Longhorns will take on the Tolar Rattlers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Early is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Early took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Comanche, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Longhorns had just enough and edged out the Indians 4-3 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Longhorns have posted since March 14th.
Sydney Greaves spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Early saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyleigh Caperton, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Tolar and Peaster had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Rattlers took a 17-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Greyhounds on Friday. While the Rattlers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Greyhounds 5-1 in the first period.
Senne Imel stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Jaylyn Miller was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
Early pushed their record up to 15-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Tolar, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-12.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Early has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .520. However, it's not like Tolar struggles in that department as they've averaged .449. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Early came up short against Tolar in their previous meeting back in March, falling 8-5. Will the Longhorns have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
