Wayne hasn't had much luck against Malcolm recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Blue Devils will take on the Clippers at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Wayne sitting on five straight victories and Malcolm on six.
Wayne is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They came out on top against Adams Central by a score of 6-1.
Gavin Redden made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 6.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chase Sturm, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI. Another player making a difference was Alex Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Malcolm posted their closest win since April 22nd on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Mount Michael Benedictine.
Logan Mcgreer was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April.
Malcolm hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Wayne's record is now 19-9. As for Malcolm, their record now sits at 25-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wayne has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Malcolm struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Wayne came up short against Malcolm in their previous matchup back in March, falling 15-12. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
