Hurricane is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Riverside is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Redskins will welcome the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hurricane's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Riverside's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Thursday, Hurricane made easy work of Independence and carried off a 10-3 victory. Considering the Redskins have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Sophie Dunlap spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Layla Hodges was incredible, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Josie Shamblin, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Riverside posted their closest win since April 17th on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Huntington 3-1.
The team relied heavily on Haylee Mullins, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Riverside's victory bumped their record up to 20-9. As for Hurricane, their win bumped their record up to 15-9.
Hurricane came out on top in a nail-biter against Riverside in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 9-8. Will the Redskins repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
