Sunlake has won nine straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Wiregrass Ranch has won nine straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. Sunlake will welcome Wiregrass Ranch at 8:00 p.m. Sunlake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Sunlake had just enough and edged out Zephyrhills 4-3. The Seahawks haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Sydney Walker looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sunlake's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Zoey Cropper, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Cropper a new career-high. Ava Rapp also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Wiregrass Ranch got the win against Zephyrhills Christian Academy on Monday by a conclusive 17-7. The result was nothing new for the Bulls, who have now won five matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Kayla Valentin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. Valentin was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Zoe Troupe was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aurora Thompson, who scored two runs while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
Wiregrass Ranch always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Zephyrhills Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .414.
Sunlake's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Wiregrass Ranch, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Sunlake has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Wiregrass Ranch struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sunlake couldn't quite get it done against Wiregrass Ranch in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 8-5. Will Sunlake have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
