After flying high against the Brandon Eagles last Wednesday, the Sumner Stingrays came back down to earth. Sumner took a 49-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of King on Friday. Sumner was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as King apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Sumner lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Devin Baker, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Sean Chaplin, who scored four points along with five rebounds and four steals.
King was led to victory by Ian McLargin and Julien Barnett. McLargin scored 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Barnett dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Barnett hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. George "TJ" Daniels was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five assists and two steals.
Sumner's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-6. As for King, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-9.
Sumner will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Gaither at 8:00 p.m. Gaither will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for King, they will head out on the road to challenge Durant at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Durant presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than King in Florida (Durant is ranked 120th, while King is ranked 334th).
