It was a good run, but the Whitko Wildcats unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell to Maconaquah 60-55. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Whitko in their matchups with Maconaquah: they've now lost three in a row.
Defeat or not, Whitko got some senior leadership from Sam Essegian who dropped a triple-double on 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists and Kyler Krull who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds. Krull scored a full 38.2% of Whitko's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Easton Grable, who scored nine points.
Even though they lost, Whitko were working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maconaquah only racked up nine assists.
Maconaquah's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was AJ Kelly, who scored 19 points along with three steals. The game was Kelly's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Fuddy Kile, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Whitko's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Maconaquah, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Whitko will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Rochester at 7:45 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Maconaquah's road trip will continue as they head out to face Caston at 6:00 p.m. on December 27th. Caston is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
