Calhoun is 5-0 against Dallas County since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Calhoun Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Dallas County Hornets at 6:30 p.m. Calhoun will be strutting in after a victory while Dallas County will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Thursday, Calhoun was able to grind out a solid win over Central, taking the game 41-32. 41 seems to be a good number for Calhoun as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Calhoun can attribute much of their success to Layla Gary, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and three steals, and Kamelia Hunter, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and six steals. Hunter hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Champion, who scored three points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Dallas County's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 79-15 to Prattville Christian Academy, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, Dallas County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 381st, while Prattville Christian Academy is ranked 24th).
Calhoun's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-10. As for Dallas County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-15.
Everything went Calhoun's way against Dallas County in their previous meeting back in November of 2023 as Calhoun made off with a 53-27 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Calhoun since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
