Pima is on a 14-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Holbrook is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Pima Roughriders will take on the Holbrook Roadrunners at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Pima was fully in charge, breezing past Santa Cruz Valley 49-20 at home.
Among those leading the charge was Jeremiah Martinez , who rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Martinez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 53 yards. Tuddy Smart got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Pima's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 5.5 sacks. Leading the way was Preston Russell and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Holbrook blew past Tuba City, posting a 50-6 victory on the road.
Holbrook found their leader in underclassman Matthias Montijo, who rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Darnell Nez was another key contributor, gaining 141 total yards.
Their wins bumped Pima to 10-0 and Holbrook to 7-3.
