On Friday, the Jackson-Reed Tigers faced the Coolidge Colts in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Jackson-Reed fell just short of the Colts by a score of 43-40. It was the first time this season that Jackson-Reed let down their fans at home.
Despite the defeat, Jackson-Reed saw an underclassman step up: Noa Gordon dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Gordon continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Kryslynn Stewart was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
Coolidge found their leader in underclassman Josslyn Derricott, who dropped a triple-double on 20 points, 11 rebounds, and ten blocks. Derricott hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Jaylyn Derricott, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Jackson-Reed's loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-7. As for Coolidge, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jackson-Reed will square off against the Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Coolidge, they will head out on the road to face off against the Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Ballou and the Colts are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
