The Lowpoint-Washburn Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the DeLand-Weldon Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Lowpoint-Washburn focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
Last Friday, Lowpoint-Washburn came up short against Stark County and fell 59-48. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Lowpoint-Washburn came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while Stark County is ranked 335th).
Baylor Steffen put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 25 points. He hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Kody Knecht was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 8 rebounds and 7 steals.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to DeLand-Weldon, who are still winless after their fourth contest. They were dealt a 62-12 defeat at the hands of Fisher on Monday. DeLand-Weldon has not had much luck with Fisher recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Their wins bumped Lowpoint-Washburn to 7-3 and Stark County to 5-2.
Everything came up roses for Lowpoint-Washburn against DeLand-Weldon in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 63-18 victory. Will Lowpoint-Washburn repeat their success, or does DeLand-Weldon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
