The West Florence Knights will head out on the road to face off against the South Florence Bruins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Florence is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
On Saturday, West Florence earned an 11-6 victory over White Knoll.
Matthew Brown and Avery Weaver made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Brown pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Weaver didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. Brown has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Brown scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while Weaver scored a run while going 1-for-4. That stolen base was Brown's first of the season.
In other batting news, Ryan Coscetti was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Carson Haynes, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, South Florence didn't have quite enough to beat East Clarendon on Saturday and fell 7-6.
Amare Reaves made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe McLaughlin, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
West Florence's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for South Florence, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. West Florence has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .455. However, it's not like South Florence struggles in that department as they've averaged .495. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Florence took their victory against South Florence in their previous meeting last Saturday by a conclusive 13-5. Does West Florence have another victory up their sleeve, or will South Florence turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
