After flying high against the Mendenhall Tigers last Friday, the Northeast Jones Tigers came back down to earth. Northeast Jones fell to Quitman 50-44. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Northeast Jones in their matchups with Quitman: they've now lost seven in a row.
Northeast Jones lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Diamond Robinson, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Falasia Cooley, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
AUDRIANA HARRIS was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 17 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals for Quitman. HARRIS has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was KIARRA THOMPSON, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds.
Northeast Jones has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. As for Quitman, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5.
Northeast Jones will take on Forest at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Forest is ranked 83rd, while Northeast Jones is ranked 67th). As for Quitman, they will head out on the road to take on Mendenhall at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mendenhall is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
