Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Heritage Hills Patriots walked away with it. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 24-21 win over Batesville on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for Heritage Hills who now have seven in a row.
Jett Goldsberry was his usual excellent self, rushing for 157 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry, and also throwing for 84 yards and a touchdown. Goldsberry really tore up the turf during one magnificent 79-yard run. Heritage Hills also got help from Tyler Ruxer who showed off his sure hands for 87 receiving yards.
Despite the loss, Batesville still got an impressive performance from Cade Kaiser, who picked up 172 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Will Jaisle was another key contributor, throwing for 223 yards and two touchdowns.
Heritage Hills pushed their record up to 12-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 7-4 Southridge and 7-5 Scottsburg (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 64.1% over those games). As for Batesville, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-2.
Heritage Hills will be playing at home against Gibson Southern at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gibson Southern is coming into the match hot, having won their last eight games. Batesville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
