Atmore Christian saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Kennell, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Kennell has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Bristol Talmage also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Even though they lost, Atmore Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Aletheia Christian Academy only posted a batting average of .222.
Meanwhile, Central Christian didn't have quite enough to beat West Florida Baptist Academy on Thursday and fell 14-12.
MJ Parrish and Sydney Walker did some serious damage despite the final result: Parrish scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Walker went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Walker a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Calleigh Callaway, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.
Central Christian's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-2. As for Atmore Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Atmore Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .456. However, it's not like Central Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .404. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Atmore Christian suffered a grim 21-3 defeat to Central Christian in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Can Atmore Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
