Basketball Game Preview: Brunswick Pirates vs. Glynn Academy Terrors

Brunswick and Glynn Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2021, but not for long. The Brunswick Pirates will square off against the Glynn Academy Terrors at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Brunswick is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68.1 points per game this season.

Brunswick is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Statesboro just ended the team's seven-game winning streak two weeks ago. They fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 53-50. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Pirates have suffered since January 3, 2024.

Brunswick's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Caleb Butler, who posted 18 points, and Heze Kent, who had nine points and eight boards. Kent has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last nine times he's played.

Meanwhile, Glynn Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They took a blow against Bradwell Institute, falling 78-36. While losing is never fun, the Terrors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 476th, while the Tigers are ranked 48th).

Despite the defeat, Glynn Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ahmad Mcintosh dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards.

Brunswick's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-2. As for Glynn Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-21.

Everything came up roses for Brunswick against Glynn Academy in their previous matchup on January 10th, as the squad secured a 74-35 win. In that contest, Brunswick amassed a halftime lead of 42-17, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
