Volleyball Recap: Walnut Grove Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Walnut Grove, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 2-0 win over the Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes on Thursday. For the Warriors, this counts as revenge for the 2-1 victory the Purple Hurricanes walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

Walnut Grove not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Monroe Area between 19 and 21 points across their sets. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-19.

Lena Battenfeld paced Walnut Grove's offense, picking up six kills. Battenfeld got some help from Bella Johnson and her 13 assists. Riley Bramblett controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Walnut Grove's win bumped their record up to 18-9. As for Monroe Area, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season.

Coincidentally, Walnut Grove and Monroe Area will both be playing Scholars Guild Academy the next time they take the court. The Purple Hurricanes will head out to face the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Warriors will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
