The Polson Pirates will take on the Corvallis Blue Devils at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Polson is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Montana's top teams: Libby, who was ranked 23rd at the time (Polson was ranked 20th). The Pirates blew past the Loggers 9-2 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won three matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Liam Jackson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Noah Agliano was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2025. Cole Wadsworth was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Polson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Libby only managed two.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Corvallis). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Ronan a 14-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Blue Devils as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Adrian Sears was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Sears was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Jake Leavitt was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Corvallis is 2-1 when Leavitt posts two or more runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Waylon Lendak, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
The win got Polson back to even at 4-4. As for Corvallis, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.
Everything went Polson's way against Corvallis in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Polson made off with a 10-4 win. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
