Delta has gone 8-2 against Basalt recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Panthers will welcome the Longhorns at 11:00 a.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Basalt will be up against a hot Delta team: the squad just extended their winning streak to ten. Everything went the Panthers' way against Gunnison on Tuesday as they made off with a 13-6 victory.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Basalt, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Rifle on Tuesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Longhorns as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Karson Schneider spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Basalt is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Basalt let Elias Schendler and Chris Hays run wild. Schendler went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Hays went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Basalt is 5-2 when Schendler posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Taylor Hays, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Basalt was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Delta pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Basalt, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.
Everything went Delta's way against Basalt in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Delta made off with a 10-4 win. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Longhorns turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
