College Station extended their winning streak to six on Friday, bumping them up to 6-4. They came within four points of losing the streak, but they secured a 35-31 W against the Weiss Wolves. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cougars also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2024.
College Station was led to victory by Trey Walton and Keaton Johnson. Walton rushed for 173 yards and one score while picking up 8.2 yards per carry, while Johnson rushed for 172 yards and one TD. Those 172 rushing yards gave Johnson a new career-high.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: College Station was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 365 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 193 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to College Station's defensive line and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Wade Couch and Zahron Benford, who racked up four sacks between them. Benford is becoming a predictor of College Station's success: when he posts at least two sacks the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Couch got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
As for Weiss, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-2. Despite 62 more yards than College Station, the Wolves couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Weiss' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaxon Schad, who threw for 427 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 71.1% of his passes, and also rushed for 37 yards and two scores. With that strong performance, Schad is now averaging an impressive 312.7 passing yards per game. Jordan Ibn Anderson-El was Schad's top target, picking up 214 receiving yards and one TD.
College Station will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Angleton at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th. The Cougars will need to watch out since the Wildcats have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Weiss, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 28-7 win against Anderson on the 6th.
