The Lutheran Lions will face off against the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Lutheran came out on top against Thomas Jefferson on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Lions blew past the Spartans 10-1. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Cade Petersen looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lutheran is undefeated when Petersen allows one or fewer earned runs, but 7-9 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Anthony Misch, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ryan McDougal, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Cheyenne Mountain made sure to put some runs up on the board against Lutheran on Tuesday. The Red-Tailed Hawks were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over the Lions. The result was nothing new for the Red-Tailed Hawks, who have now won five games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Colton Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles.
In other batting news, Nate Glad was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Charlie Scofield was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Cheyenne Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.
Lutheran's win bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4-1 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Lutheran hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Cheyenne Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
