Baseball Recap: Mccutcheon Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

McCutcheon came tearing into Thursday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over the Northwestern Tigers. Considering the Mavericks have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Aiden Riser was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 6.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-7 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for McCutcheon: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 9-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, McCutcheon let Sam Swank and Blake Morrison run wild. Swank got on base in four of his seven plate appearances with two runs, while Morrison got on base in three of his six plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Morrison has posted since back in April. Zayne Newgent was another key player, going 3-for-7 with two runs and one RBI.

McCutcheon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

McCutcheon's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-10. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Northwestern, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McCutcheon will welcome Crawfordsville at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. As for Northwestern, they will be playing at home against Rossville at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
