If the Leroy Bears were feeling good off their 82-46 takedown of the Fruitdale Pirates last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Leroy took a 62-47 bruising from McIntosh on Thursday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Leroy in their matchups with McIntosh: they've now lost four in a row.
Leroy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ray Phillips, who scored 12 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Phillips hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Brayden Huebner was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Leroy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McIntosh only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
McIntosh's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brittney Reed Jr., who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds. Reed Jr. has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dristen Sullivan, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Leroy has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for McIntosh, their victory bumped their record up to 18-3.
Leroy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Washington County at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. McIntosh's road trip will continue as they head out to face Fruitdale at 5:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Fruitdale is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
