The Burrillville Broncos will head out on the road to face off against the Westerly Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Rhode Island (Burrillville is ranked ninth, while Westerly is ranked sixth).
Last Saturday, Burrillville was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 12-6 to St. Raphael Academy.
The team lost despite holding St. Raphael Academy to a paltry 168 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Burrillville's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Ethan Murphy and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Westerly had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 31-13 victory over South Kingstown.
Westerly got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Landon Husereau out in front who threw for 222 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes. Drew Bozek got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
St. Raphael Academy's win bumped their season record to 5-3 while Burrillville's defeat dropped theirs to 4-4.
Burrillville won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in November of 2019, slipping by Westerly 14-13. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Westerly's Rocco Cillino, who rushed for 168 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for four yards and a touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Burrillville to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
