The Greenfield/Northwestern Tigers will challenge the Newark Norsemen at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Greenfield/Northwestern is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over Pleasant Hill/Western on Thursday. The Tigers not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 26, 2024.
Talon Albrecht was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Wyatt Stuart was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Greenfield/Northwestern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Newark never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Hiawatha as they made off with a 10-0 victory. The Norsemen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by seven runs or more this season.
Eastin Mcbroom was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Newark is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-6 otherwise. Mcbroom was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Toby Steffen, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Newark is 2-1 when Steffen posts two or more runs, but 1-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jackson Walker, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Newark's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-7. As for Greenfield/Northwestern, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Greenfield/Northwestern has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Newark struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
