Lafayette is 1-9 against Sulphur since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Lafayette Lions will venture away from home to take on the Sulphur Golden Tors at 4:00 p.m. Lafayette is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.9 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Lafayette came up short against Acadiana and fell 12-8.
Caroline Terro was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February of 2024. Haylan Chapman also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Sulphur posted their closest win since February 27th on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Southside, sneaking past 7-6. The Golden Tors haven't had any issues with the Sharks recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Pressy White made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3.
White wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Keely LaBove, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Sulphur's record is now 7-9. As for Lafayette, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5-1.
Lafayette's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. Lafayette has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Sulphur, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Lafayette continue to outrun the ball?
Lafayette skirted past Sulphur 4-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lafayette since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
