Central State Eight recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Springfield, who took down 97th ranked Springfield, 28-21.
Sacred Heart-Griffin extended the longest winning streak in Central State Eight this week by beating Jacksonville, 21-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Rochester's dynamic duo of Austin Green and Gabe Ferguson proved tough for Lanphier to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Green threw for 289 yards and three touchdowns and Ferguson had 90 yards receiving. Drake Berberet helped Rochester's passing attack out by catching four balls for 58 yards.
Malik Harrison was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 97 yards on eight carries as the Senators bested the Lions. Teammate Brinton Wilkey added to the ground attack by rushing for 75 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Green of Rochester is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1200. He has also thrown nine touchdowns. On the ground, Springfield's Wilkey has rushed for 482 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Reggie Bratton. The Jacksonville star has 27 catches for 564 yards.
A big matchup in Central State Eight this week will be when Derek Leonard's team takes on Glenwood. The Rockets are currently in third, while the Titans are in second.
Rochester was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. The Rockets beat Lanphier 54-15 earlier in the week.
