3A Region 4 recap September 17, 2013
Louisville extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region 4 this week by beating Philadelphia, 19-6. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Wildcats.
South Pontotoc fell to North Pontotoc 42-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Wesley Ross was a bright spot for the Cougars, as he threw for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns in the loss.
Josh Williams threw for 213 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was 11-20 with 1 interceptions.
Williams put up the best numbers in passing as Aberdeen fell to Noxubee County. Williams' favorite target this week was Jerrick Orr, who caught 4 passes for 111 yards.
Levert Jernigan was the best receiver in the league this week as Nettleton fell to Shannon. Jernigan racked up 12 receptions for 118 yards. Jordan Smith helped Nettleton's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 33 yards.
Teon Thomas was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 18 carries, he ran for 108 yards as Winona fell to the Red Raiders. Teammate Ray Richardson added to the ground attack by rushing for 60 yards.
Leading 3A Region 4 in both passing and receiving yards, Nettleton's Dakota Cruber and Jernigan have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Cruber has thrown for 1,071 yards this season, while Jernigan has 34 catches for 481 yards. Demarcus Brooks from Louisville leads the league in rushing with 346 yards.
Kemper County led the league in scoring this week after putting up 30 points on Newton.
