The North Baltimore Tigers will venture away from home to take on the Elgin Comets at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Elgin will be up against a hot North Baltimore team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Tigers walked away with an 11-7 victory over Allen East on Tuesday.
Kenzey Young made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Young was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Nevaeh DeWitt and Jayme Zeigler did most of the damage at the plate: DeWitt got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Zeigler went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two hits gave Zeigler a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jessica Trout, who got on base in two of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Elgin came out on top against Perry on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run first inning. The Comets never let the Commodores get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Comets in their matchups with the Commodores: they've now won nine in a row.
Addison Clevenger was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Mallorie Hempy also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Elgin hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Perry struck out seven times.
North Baltimore's record now sits at 10-4. As for Elgin, their record is now 6-10.
Elgin's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: North Baltimore has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Elgin, though, as they've been averaging 9.9 hits. Given North Baltimore's sizable advantage in that area, the Comets will need to find a way to close that gap.
North Baltimore couldn't quite get it done against Elgin in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
