The Montrose Red Hawks put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 65-48 win over Moffat County. Given Montrose's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while Moffat County is ranked 96th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Montrose's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaleb Ferguson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Ferguson has scored at least 25% of Montrose's points. Jaxon Killen was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with 8 rebounds.
Moffat County's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ian Champ hafey, who scored 7 points along with 9 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Hudson Jones, who scored 13 points along with 5 rebounds.
Montrose has yet to lose a matchup on the road this season, leaving them with a 4-0 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points per game. As for Moffat County, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Montrose will head out on the road to face off against Basalt at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Basalt's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. Moffat County won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Conifer at 5:00 p.m. on December 8th. Hopefully Conifer focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Thursday.
