The biggest upset of the week belonged to New Hope, who took down 57th ranked New Hope, 29-22.
Oxford extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region 1 this week by beating Saltillo, 37-7. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Chargers.
Parker Adamson and Jarius Barnes gave Oxford a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Adamson threw for 111 yards and one touchdown, while Barnes ran for 120 yards. Adamson also contributed to the rushing game with 45 yards on the ground.
D'marius Gillespie was the best wideout in the league this week as Center Hill lost to West Point. Gillespie tallied three receptions for 63 yards. Dante Miller helped Center Hill's passing attack out by catching one ball for one yard.
Malek Butler made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Mustangs fell to the Green Wave. The 5-foot-7 defensive back grabbed one interception.
6-foot-5 quarterback Adamson of Johnny Hill's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1602. He has also thrown 12 touchdowns. On the ground, the Tigers' Andrew Soper has rushed for 766 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is AJ Hunt. The Saltillo star has 26 catches for 750 yards.
The marquee game in 5A Region 1 this week will be the clash between West Point and the Chargers. Chris Chambless' team enters the contest ranked ninth in the state, while Oxford ranks 11th.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Chargers take on the Green Wave. Oxford's offense has recorded 265 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while West Point has permitted only 104 on the year.
